About Natalie

I believe that people are far more expansive than the boxes they have been taught to fit inside. My work as a counsellor is rooted in helping people discover, understand, and move toward the most authentic versions of themselves, not by becoming someone new, but by becoming more deeply connected to who they already are.

For me, authenticity begins with deep honesty. It means learning to recognize your yeses and your nos, listening to the messages of your body and your mind, understanding what makes you you, and developing the courage not to abandon yourself in order to meet someone else’s expectations. It also means learning the difference between discomfort that invites growth and discomfort that pushes us too much. I believe there is tremendous wisdom in both our minds and our bodies, and that neither exists separately from the other. Our experiences are embodied, and our bodies are constantly communicating with us.

My own journey has taught me a great deal about identity, relationships, sexuality, neurodivergence, spirituality, and the process of becoming more fully myself. Growing up in a strict Christian environment, I learned how easily shame and inherited expectations can disconnect us from who we are, so much so I didn't want to live the life I was existing in. Everything changed when I chose myself and realized I could choose and can always choose self. This is the moment my life felt like it actually began for me. It also deepened my empathy for people navigating the space between who they have been and who they are and are becoming.

Outside of counselling, I have spent more than a decade working as a photographer. At the heart of both my photography and counselling work is a desire to help people feel genuinely seen, in their full humanity.

I have always been described as warm and motherly, and over time, I have come to understand that nurturing does not have to be limited to a biological role. I feel deeply called to offer that warmth to adults and not create human children of my own. My dog is child enough for me. In that sense, I think of myself as someone who wants to help mother the world, bringing the warmth of the hearth into the lives of the people I encounter.

I am continually learning, questioning, and allowing myself to change. I see myself as a fellow human who is continually learning, questioning, and expanding, always analyzing my ego as it reminds me of my very human self. I believe our lives become richer when we give ourselves permission to move beyond inherited expectations and explore what is actually true for us. My hope is to offer a space where you do not have to make yourself smaller, simpler, or more understandable in order to just be.

Transformation

I believe transformation begins with turning toward ourselves with curiosity rather than judgment. We all have our own internal language and with curiosity can better understand it rather than judge it and miss what your inner self, your body, and your mind is actually trying to say. The story underneath the story.

Sometimes growth means stepping into the unfamiliar. Sometimes it means slowing down enough to hear ourselves. And sometimes it means discovering that the thing we thought was wrong with us is actually a part of ourselves asking to be understood.

I believe emotions are information, not problems to be eliminated. Even the feelings we struggle with can offer insight into our needs, boundaries, values, and desires. I have a particular appreciation for anger, an emotion that is often misunderstood or treated as inherently negative. When approached with curiosity and care, anger can help us recognize what matters to us and create movement toward change.

Transformation is not always about pushing forward. Sometimes it is about learning to listen, honour our limits, and build a life that genuinely fits who we are.

Expressive Arts Therapy

Creativity is one of the ways I understand people and the world around me. I am particularly drawn to expressive arts approaches that invite us to explore our inner experiences through art, imagery, movement, writing, and other creative forms of expression. All humans are creative, it just manifests in different ways. You do not have to be an artist to be creative, I REPEAT you do not need to be an artist to be creative. Creativity is individualistic and unique for each person. The way I use it in session is really casual, things like playing with polymer clay, colors, paint, it doesn't matter what the medium is what matters is the different kind of messages and deeper understanding we can glean from using creativity to help process what is coming up for you in the present moment.

Not everything we experience is easy to put into words. Sometimes an image, a colour, a shape, or a creative process can help us approach something we have struggled to articulate. I am always pondering about how creative exploration can offer new perspectives, deepen self-understanding, and create space for experiences that may not yet have language.

My artistry has taught me to appreciate the many ways people communicate beyond words. I bring that same curiosity into counselling, with an interest in making room for creativity as a meaningful part of self-discovery.

Identity, Self-Discovery and Neurodivergence

I am passionate about supporting people as they explore who they are beyond the expectations, labels, and systems they have inherited. My own experiences with identity, queerness, kink, and ADHD have strengthened my belief that people do not need to become more like everyone else in order to thrive.

I am interested in the ways shame, social expectations, and the pressure to fit in can shape our relationship with ourselves. Together, we can explore what feels authentic to you, what no longer fits, and what it might look like to build a life that works with your unique needs, values, and ways of experiencing the world.

Queer-Affirming, Sex-Positive and Relationship-Inclusive Counselling

I bring an affirming, non-judgmental perspective to conversations about sexuality, gender and identity, intimacy, and relationships. My lived and professional experiences have brought me into close contact with queer, kink, and sex worker communities, deepening my appreciation for the importance of spaces where people can speak openly without fear of being stigmatized or pathologized.

I am particularly interested in supporting people who are exploring non-traditional relationship structures, including polyamory and consensual non-monogamy, as well as those navigating attachment, boundaries, jealousy, vulnerability, communication, and the complexities of intimacy.

You do not need to justify your identity, desires, or relationship choices to be met with respect. My intention is to create space for honest exploration, where you can better understand your experiences and discover what connection, intimacy, and authenticity mean to you.

How I Work

I approach counselling with curiosity, authenticity, and respect for your autonomy. I do not believe there is one correct way to live a life, and I believe our lives become richer when we give ourselves permission to move beyond inherited expectations and explore what is actually true for us.

I believe there is tremendous wisdom in both our minds and bodies, and that neither exists separately from the other. This might involve exploring what the body is saying, identifying emotions, noticing patterns, or becoming curious about what a feeling might be communicating. Rather than treating difficult emotions as something to suppress or fix, I am interested in understanding what they may be asking of us. Together, we can explore ways of relating to our experiences that honour their meaning while building greater awareness, flexibility, and self-trust.

My hope is to offer a space where you do not have to make yourself smaller, simpler, or more understandable in order to just be. My work is about helping people feel seen, not simply understood for what they say, but understood for what they mean.

I am not contained by a box; I am expansion. Like my mind, I am not limited to one perception. I am in charge of creating how my inner world looks, despite the exterior world being out of my control.
